About

Hardware & AI, in both directions

I'm a final-year B.Tech student in Electrical & Computer Engineering at Shiv Nadar Institution of Eminence, working at the intersection of hardware and AI — in both directions.

On the hardware-for-AI side: accelerator architectures, memory systems, and making large-model inference efficient, adaptive and reproducible on real hardware. On the AI-for-hardware side, I spent summer 2026 at STMicroelectronics building automation for memory design — a generator that emits synthesis-ready ECC RTL, the verification harness that proves it correct, and a controlled study of what LLMs can and cannot contribute to RTL generation.

My undergraduate thesis is an open-source GPU microarchitecture designed from first principles — ISA, microarchitecture and synthesizable RTL, patent-unencumbered — because this field shouldn't stay locked behind a handful of proprietary architectures. The golden-model simulator came first, so the RTL can be checked against something known-correct rather than debugged in isolation.

I'm applying to PhD programmes for Fall 2027. I'd like to spend it on the architectures and memory systems that will run the next generation of models, and on the methodology question underneath my current work: how do you know a hardware result is real?

Things I've built

RMAI — Runtime Adaptive Inference

A framework that jointly tunes per-layer sparsity and quantization to live device state (thermal, power, load) on resource-constrained edge hardware — trading accuracy for efficiency only when conditions demand it.

14.8% lower latency · 15.4% energy savings vs static INT8 (ResNet-50, Raspberry Pi 4)

Bitwise-Reproducible Reduction

A compiler/fabric ABI that guarantees bit-identical reduction results across heterogeneous GPU cluster reshapes — so a run is reproducible even when the cluster topology underneath it changes.

AI-Driven Memory Design Automation

@ STMicroelectronics

A Python generator that replaces a manual, per-variant RTL flow with synthesis-ready SEC/SECDED ECC memory RTL, the verification harness around it, and a controlled study of what LLMs can and cannot contribute to RTL generation.

STMicroelectronics internship completion certificate for Siddharth Patel
Internship completion certificate — STMicroelectronics, Aug 14, 2026.
  • Technology R&D (TRD) Intern

    STMicroelectronics · Greater Noida, India

    • Automated ECC memory design: replaced a manual, multi-engineer, per-variant RTL flow with a Python generator producing synthesis-ready SEC/SECDED encoder/decoder RTL across 7+ configuration axes.
    • Studied LLM-based RTL generation across 4 output representations and 7 training regimes; a ~10M-parameter from-scratch model reached 0.887 formal equivalence at ~1,600× less energy per correct design than a 32B fine-tune.
    • Built a 6-stage verification harness (exhaustive fault injection, formal equivalence, synthesis) and a spec-driven UVM testbench for an APB slave that found and fixed 4 RTL bugs.
  • Teaching Assistant — Digital Electronics

Department of Electrical Engineering, Shiv Nadar Institution of Eminence · Greater Noida, India

    • Running digital-design labs for 60 students, and independently designing three FPGA experiments that teach Verilog through progressively harder RTL tasks rather than fill-in-the-blank exercises.
  • Curriculum Designer & Lab Instructor — Electronics & IoT

Department of Electrical Engineering, Shiv Nadar Institution of Eminence · Greater Noida, India

    • Built the first-year Electronics & IoT lab course: experiments, modules, learning objectives and assessments for 480+ students, taught 120+ directly, and led the build-out of a 20-station research lab from equipment procurement through setup.
  • Independent Consultant — Electronics Design

Electronics manufacturer (confidential) · Delhi NCR, India

    • Sole engineer on a full product redesign: re-architected 3- and 4-phase voltage stabilizers end to end (circuit, PCB, firmware, enclosure), cutting production cost by ~70% through modular reuse while keeping backward compatibility with legacy units.
